Engineering study focused on reducing fugitive SO₂ emissions from converter and furnace operations at Lonmin’s platinum smelter. The study evaluated existing ventilation and capture systems, identified deficiencies, and developed conceptual designs for improved hoods, ductwork, and integration with the acid plant.

Key Objectives Included:

  • Quantify fugitive SO₂ emissions by process area
  • Assess performance of existing off-gas capture systems
  • Develop options for improved furnace and converter hooding
